What is a headshot? A headshot is certainly more than a pretty face.  A headshot is an 8x10, color or black and white photo of you in print. It is used mostly by Actors, models and artists. Professionals and executives styles vary somewhat from the entertainment field. It should be reproduced professionally and it must not only look like you, but must convey your personality as well. It can either be a close-up of your head, head and shoulders or it can be a ¾ shot (from knees to head) or anything in between. It should have lots of energy and personality and should make the viewer want to meet you. There are many variations in the visual approach to a headshot, usually dictated by its intent. Before the shoot, we will discuss exactly what you want. Hopefully you already have some idea. There are many decisions to make when creating a headshot. You can decide to shoot indoors or outdoors, to use available or artificial lighting or both. Are  you looking for theatrical or modeling head shots or both? Do you want conventional business executive, tight, close up headshots or waist up. Choosing a background color, headshot styles such as conventional portrait or more artistic Rembrandt lighting are all items to think about. Consider clothing color. Black is always good. White is not! Solid colors are the way to go most of the time. Stripes and plaid patterns are not usually a good idea. They can be very distracting. Consider how all your colors will go together...i.e. Your shirt color, your hair color, your eye color and the background color.   Up to 3 and 1/2 hours usually is required for the Pro Shoot headshot sessions. During the Pro Shoot Plus session you have no time limit in studio.

I have come to the conclusion that my job is more than just a photographer when doing headshots. I also have to "draw" out the personality of the subject most of the time and make them feel comfortable.  If your headshots are for acting/theatre...then get theatrical. By that I mean Put some personality into your expression.
